Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and sentenced more than 27 years in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This included attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a chance to flee".

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
