A man who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both between nine and ten.
The accused was arrested after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was against a young boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She explained the defendant proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the police again.
She said Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
