England along with Welsh Drawn in the Same Group for RWC 2027 in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by rugby legends such as former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side together with their Welsh counterparts find themselves placed in an identical pool for the 2027 RWC, setting up a major early encounter in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This pairing echoes their famous meeting in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at Twickenham contributed to the English team's shock group stage elimination.

Key Pool Draws

The Irish and Scotland also share a pool together, just as the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. In that tournament, they secured a 36-14 victory, with their opponents failing to advance to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Os Lobos, who each impressed as underdogs in the last World Cup, round out that same group.

Notably, the victors of these two groups are kept apart from holders and top-ranked South Africa until the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks win their assigned pool.

Knockout Ramifications

Should the pools conclude according to the current global standings, other top favourites like New Zealand and Les Bleus would also be kept apart from both the English and Ireland until the final.

In that scenario, Argentina would be the remaining highly-seeded nation on the same side of the knockout draw as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Face Major Opener

Hosts the Wallabies have been drawn alongside their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Pool A.

Australia will open the World Cup in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee match designed to jump-start the competition.

In other groups, reigning champions the Springboks have been paired with the Azzurri, Georgia and Romania. The French team are in a pool with Japan, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will take on Fiji, Spain and the Canadian team as the World Cup grows to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in 2023.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a last-16 stage for the first time in Rugby World Cup history.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's heavyweights initially, they will meet the second-placed team from Pool B – probably the Italians – in the last 16.

A total of four of the other six group winners will play a third-placed side from the pool stages.
